AD322 – interesting and beautiful 1950s or 1960s Yoruba adire eleko starch resist indigo dyed woman’s wrapper cloth with an unusual design in which a regular grid of small squares is filled with an alternation of tiny stars with cross hatching. Done by hand, probably through a metal stencil grid, one can only imagine how long it took to paint on the starch with a rudimentary brush. Has a noticeable ‘bruise’ where the starch was disturbed before fully dry. In faded and worn condition.
Measurement: 77 inches x 71 ins, 190cm x 188cm.
