Description

AGB106 – Superb nineteenth century robe in the classic “eight knives design”. The embroidery is bold and clear rather than particularly fine, but the impact is strong and dramatic on a flared tunic shape made up of dark indigo check hand spun cotton narrow 2 inch width cloth strips in the prestigious “etu” or “guineafowl” pattern, hand tailored throughout. On the body of the robe the strips have been folded in half to create strips only 1 inch wide, adding bulk and weight to the gown. The base of the robe is lined with a broad band of cotton from an interesting early wax print, most likely from Manchester. This beautiful robe is in excellent condition with no stains, holes, or repairs.

Measurement: 91 inches x 49 inches, 232 cm x 126 cm.
