Description
Exceptionally fine Ewe kente woman’s cloth. The master weaver has restricted his colour palette to predominantly red, yellow, and green for the weft faced bands and yellow for the float motifs, against the blue and white striped ground. A repetition of triangles and diamonds in the float selection adds a visual dynamic to the cloth. And one tiny detail that I particularly like – notice the small knife next to the open hand at upper left in the detail. The cloth is in excellent complete condition and dates from around 1930-1950. Women’s cloths of this quality have always been few and far between and are now extremely difficult to source.
Measurements 6’6″ x 4’5″, 198 cm x 135.
