Description

Pink, yellow, and ikat patterned stripes against a black ground on this distinctive and unusual Yoruba woman’s wrapper cloth. dating from the 1960s, it is made up of two panels joined horizontally at the centre and was woven by a female weaver on the upright loom. Interestingly the narrow warp stripes that flank the ikat sections are woven from thread that blends two colours, something that is more usually seen on Ewe kente cloth. In excellent condition.
Measurements 76 inches x 61, 193 cm x 154.
