Description
Red and white weft blocks provide jazzy, offbeat, patterning on this Dioula woman’s wrapper cloth from northern Ivory Coast. Quite thick handspun cotton was used for the half width indigo and white cotton strips making the cloth much heavier than is typical of Dioula pagne. The red strip marked the lower edge in use. Dates from circa 1950 and is in excellent complete condition.
Measurements 5’7″ x 3’8, 170 cm x 112.
