Ivory Coast Textiles

Textiles from Cote D’Ivoire, or Ivory Coast are mostly little known but represented an important stylistic and historical link between the textiles of Mali and those of Ghana. As the examples below indicate their dominant visual feature is an often subtle interplay between a palette of imported coloured threads and the background canvas of local indigo dyed and hand spun cotton. We also show natural dyed raffia cloths from the Dida people.
