Description
Broad crimson stripes border the typically complex striped array at the centre of this two panel cloth woven by a woman weaver from the Nupe people of central Nigeria. The exceptionally neat extra weft float confined within two narrow “stripes” on each panel is quite unusual – usually these cloths had more expansive float patterning. Dates from circa 1960s and is in excellent condition.
Measurements 5’10” x 4’9″, 177 cm x 144.
