Description
Fine check indigo dyed hand spun cotton robe from the northern regions of Benin Republic. Lighter blue cloth lines the neck and base. Washed and very wearable, in very good vintage condition. These smock like tunics were based on old style riding outfits and were worn by chiefs and other “big men” as a sign of high rank. Dates from circa 1930-60.
