Outstanding indigo strip weave tunic, worn by hunters, chiefs and elders in the north of the Republic of Benin, first half of the twentieth century. Hand sewn from three different indigo dyed handspun cotton strip weave patterns, with careful patched repairs. The flared open style of this tunic reflects it’s origin as attire worn on horseback. In neat clean condition this beautiful garment is very wearable as well as looking great on a wall. Front view shown.
