Description
This beautiful mid century Ewe kente men’s cloth is a good illustration of the interplay between regularity and improvisation in Ewe weaving. The sets of weft blocks pick up the yellow/pink/green/white palette set by the warp stripes at the edge of each strip, but as the weaver works along the cloth he varies the order and combinations he creates with these colours , still set within the regular grid layout. The cloth dates from circa 1950s and is in very good complete condition.
Measurements 9’4″ x 6’1″, 285 cm x 186.
