Description
A 1960s “toile de korhogo” made and collected in the village of Fahaka near Korhogo in north Ivory Coast. At around this time a small number of Senufo artists began to paint cloths with the iron rich mud paint, elaborating on motifs and techniques previously reserved for Poro society masquerade costumes. Early examples like this had a flair and vitality that gives them considerable charm, before over the following decades repetition and simplification for tourist cloths set in. Collected in the 1960s, ex Swiss private collection. In excellent condition.
Measurements 4’3″ x 2’9″, 130 cmx 83.
