Description
Very rare Dioula prestige chief’s hanging cloth from northern Ivory Coast, with finely woven float patterning on a checkerboard ground. Multiple coloured lens shaped inserts in the white blocks. Dates from circa 1930-1950. The low price and Sale category reflect a couple of condition issues with this handsome cloth, namely a bleach mark visible at centre right, and a section at the left end was removed at some point and then sewn back.
Measurements 7’6″ x 4′, 227 cm x 122.
