Remarkable vintage Ewe kente strip woven woman’s cloth from eastern Ghana with a fresh bright green cotton ground and a vibrant display of weft float motifs of exceptional variety and quality. Lively animals, people, birds, and fish populate the spaces between red and yellow striped blocks. Few women’s cloths with this much weft patterning were woven as they w ere the most expensive type of kente and, we suppose, women generally had less disposable income available for prestige dress. Has one tiny old patch, circa 1 cm width, otherwise in excellent condition. Dates from circa 1950.
Measurements 76 inches X 53, 194 cm X 135.
