Description

Three rows of neat white braiding cross the white weft blocks at the end of this rare minimal Asante kente men’s cloth, creating a distinctive three dimensional effect that I haven’t seen before. The asymmetric layout, with a border at only one end of the complete cloth is also rare but a few examples are known from both Asante and eastern districts of Ivory Coast. The body of the cloth alternates plain rectangles of dark blue with blocks of very narrow white weft stripes on a dark blue and white striped warp. Dates from circa 1920-1940 and is in excellent complete condition.
Measurements 93 inches x 51, 237 cmx 129.
