Description

The differences between a standard Ewe kente woman’s cloth (still hard to find these days) and a really exceptional piece can be quite subtle and hard to recognise but often begin with a narrower strip width, indicative of finer, tighter, more intricate weaving by a skilled master weaver. Here the strips are just 7 cm wide rather than the more typical 8 1/2 to 9 cm, and the weaver’s expertise is expressed in the complexity of the pattern blocks built up from multiple narrow stripes and carefully realized float motifs. In excellent complete condition. Dates from circa 1900-1920

Measures 72 inches x 50, 182 cm x 127.
