Description

Thick indigo dyed hand spun cotton two panel woman’s loom cloth from the Yoruba people of Nigeria, with a design that mimics the typical alternation of two narrow strips of a men’s weave aso oke during the early decades of the twentieth century. We know that male and female Yoruba weavers competed and influenced each others designs since at least the mid nineteenth century. One small darned repair but otherwise in excellent condition.

Measurements 76 inches x 51, 194 cm x 130.
