Description
These simple and unassuming indigo cloths have a great dignity and beauty. They were once woven throughout much of the Yoruba speaking region of south western Nigeria, using locally grown and hand spun indigo dyed cotton. Made up of two wide panels joined at the centre, these cloths were woven by women on an upright single heddle loom producing a thick durable fabric that was called kijiipa. Dates from around 1930-1950. In excellent condition.
