Description

Quite an odd cloth. This is an Ivory Coast kita cloth, a local reworking of the Ghanaian kente cloth tradition by a weaver from one of the smaller Akan groups in the south west of the country. An Asante kente design but instead of the broad borders and grid layout central field of the original, here the whole cloth is divided into sections by blocks “shifted” from the border. Plus it is cotton rather than the artificial silk of the source cloth. It has been washed frequently and has an overall pink tone that is not unpleasing, and is in complete condition with no patches or stains. Dates from circa 1970s.
Measurements 7’7″ x 6’2″, 232 cm x 189.
