FR649 – Large Malian wedding hanging of the type known as an arkilla jenngo, woven by a Maabo weaver from the Songhay people in the vicinity of Lake Faguibine, These dramatic cloths were commissioned as a prestige adornment for weddings, primarily by wealthy Tuareg nobles in the southern reaches of the Sahara. White hand spun cotton and indigo and natural dyed wool. Dates from mid C20th. Condition is excellent.
