Description
Classic red, black, and white palette on this Akwete Igbo woman’s wrapper cloth from south eastern Nigeria. Cloths like this were popular for various ceremonies in the Niger Delta where they were known as “ikakibite”, meaning tortoise cloths. As is usually the case with Akwete cloths the fabric is noticeably wider at one end than the other. Dates from circa 1960s and is in excellent condition.
Measurements 6’1″ + fringe x 4’4″, 183 cm + fringe x 131.
