Description
A stilt house at the coastal lagoon village of Ganvie and a couple of jaunty ships are among the motifs on the strip woven white cotton ground of this unusual cloth from Benin Republic. Woven by Fon weavers in Abomey, Benin Republic, the descendants of the court weavers at the royal palace, the cloth have very wide (28 cm/11 inches) strips, decorated with large figurative motifs. Dates from circa 1970 and is in excellent complete condition.
Measurements 7’1″ x 6’6″, 212 cm x 198.
