Description
Fine example of the dramatic style of wedding hanging cloth from Niamey in Niger. Woven by a weaver of the Djerma/Zarma people and called “teratera”, these cloths had their own distinctive pattern repertoire adapted from older Fulani wool weaving motifs. On this piece the dense and complex central pattern block is set effectively within the more regularly patterned field. The cloth would have been fixed to the wall to serve as a backdrop for a family ceremony. It is in excellent complete condition.
Measurements 8’8″ x 5’7″, 265 cm x 170.
