Description
Soft beige wild silk “sanyan” Yoruba asooke woman’s wrapper cloth from Nigeria dating from around 1900. Three white cotton pin stripes run down the centre of each strip and they are crossed at irregular intervals by clusters of narrow green weft stripes. As is usually the case with the few cloths that survive from this early date the original hand stitching of the seams and hems have been resewn by machine. Otherwise in excellent condition.
Measurements 6’3″ x 4’4″, 190 cm x 133.
