Cotton threads link the rows of holes along the wine red and beige strips of this classic mid century Yoruba asooke cloth. The surface threads were the product of a particularly slow and laborious hand weaving technique and were intended to be on the front of the cloth as a decorative effect but on this example the seams between the strips are sewn neatly enough to make the back also usable if desired. In excellent condition. Dates from circa 1960.
Measurements 72 inches x 50, 183 cm x 127.
