Description
This simple pattern of weft bars in a rich indigo blue and slightly creamy white hand spun cotton is actually rather unusual on the cotton “blankets” woven by Bamana weavers in the area around Banamba, north of Segou. Although the stripes could have been aligned across the cloth when it was sewn up, instead they form an irregular dynamic effect. In excellent condition, this quite thick cloth dates to around mid C20th.
Measurements 7’1″ x 4’1″, 217 cm x 125.
