FR625 – Rare style of hand spun cotton indigo dyed men’s cloth from the Bondoukou region of north eastern Ivory Coast, most likely the work of a weaver from the Koulango or Abron ethnic groups.. After almost a decade of collecting the flow of cloths from this remote and sparsely populated region has not surprisingly dwindled to almost nothing and opportunities to acquire fine examples are now few. On this unusual example weft faced bands made up of groups of narrow red, yellow, white, grey stripes are aligned in rows across the cloth. Condition is excellent. Dates from circa 1950.
Measurement: 102 inches x 69, 260 cm x 176.
