Description
Fine neatly woven example of a wedding cloth called “duna” from the Nupe people of central Nigeria. Woven in two panels by a woman weaver, the motifs include multiple representations of Koranic writing boards as well as variations on triangles, zigzags etcetera executed in supplementary weft float on an off white cotton ground with black pinstripes. The two panels are slightly and the addition of yellow to the usual palette of green, red, and black adds an unexpected flash of colour. Dates from mid C20th and is in excellent condition.
Measurements 5’7″ x 4’2″, 170 cm x 126.
