Description
Minimal off-beat patterned cloth from the vicinity of Bondoukou in north eastern Ivory Coast. On a white cotton ground with dark blue pinstripes are scattered numerous weft stripes in either red of indigo blue. The weaver varied the width and also the texture of these weft stripes throughout to most pleasing effect – some are single, some are paid, some are smooth, others have a raised rough texture. Altogether a very unusual and distinctive cloth, dating from around 1930-50s. In excellent complete condition.
Measurements 5’6″ x 4′, 169 cm x 141.
