Description

Superb Ewe kente woman’s cloth with a distinctive and carefully planned pattern layout. Take time to look at the pairs of weft blocks and you will see that two rows across the cloth built up from multiple narrow stripes alternate with two rows that comprise of two coloured threads blended together. Either side of the central rows neat geometric weft float motifs are set within the pairs. If we remember that the weaver wove the entire cloth as a single long strip of fabric before cutting it into lengths and stitching together the strips we can only wonder at the careful planning and continued concentration required. Dates from circa 1930-15 and is in excellent complete condition.

Measurements 6’4″ x 4′, 192 cm x 122.
