Description
The black ground really brings out the rows of weft float patterning on this huge, heavyweight, Fulani wedding hanging cloth from Mali. The wide strips are stitched together only every 10 cm or so. Theis is the way the cloths were bought in a market in Mali, assuring the buyer that it was newly woven. The buyer could then use it like that or arrange to have the strips more closely sewn together. In excellent condition. Dates from circa 1990s.
Measurements 10’1″ x 5’10”, 306 cm x 177.
