Description

Quite soft rustic version of a classic blue and white hand spun cotton strip weave cloth with subtle variations in the colour of the natural indigo dyed blue thread throughout. There are also a few hints of natural beige cotton in the weft. These cloths were woven by both Fulani and Bamana weavers in the region north of Segou in Mali. Today called “damiye”, from the French “damier”, meaning “checkerboard pattern”, while the Fulani name was “koso walani”. Dates from circa 1950s and is in excellent complete condition.
Measurements 6’9″ x 2’8″, 204 cm x 81.
