Finely woven Ewe chief’s kente cloth with a typically complex warp striped background almost completely covered by weft faced blocks and weft float motifs. An overall design structure is provided by groups of three similar weft faced blocks framing pairs or triads of the same extra weft float motifs, with gaps between filled by sets of narrow weft float stripes. Orange, white,and yellow are used for the weft float motifs, while the unusual colour combinations, such as pink, yellow, and green, add a distinctive look to the finished cloth. In excellent complete condition. Dates from circa 1930-1950.
