Description
Fine old hand spun cotton woman’s wrap cloth from Ivory Coast, with a cell-like indigo dye pattern achieved by folding and dying the blue and white striped strip cloth, a technique called “fani siri” by Dioula and Baule weavers. There are three rows of small neat Dioula style weft float motifs half concealed by the indigo dye. Although this technique was quite commonly used, hand spun cotton examples like this are scarce. Dates from circa 1950 and is in excellent complete condition.
