Faded love: soft worn pale blue and dark blue ikat patterning on this classic Dioula woman’s cloth from northern Ivory Coast. Unusually extensive white extra weft float motifs alternate along the strips forming a step pattern across the cloth. This was clearly a much loved and frequently worn cloth and has a few unobtrusive tiny holes and an old repair. Dioula ikats are much rarer than the currently ubiquitous Baule cloths. Dates from around 1950s.
