Description
A super rare C19th Ewe kente woman’s cloth. The Ewe loved this exact shade of red cotton, obtained from European traders, and here it forms off set blocks of colour on a fine hand spun white and indigo dyed cotton ground. Notice the subtle variations in the colours and combinations in the narrow stripes set within the red blocks. Exceptionally this early cloth is complete and in excellent condition – typically we find only damaged and repaired examples. Dates from circa 1900 or earlier.
