Description
I do like to get really close up with the warp and weft in these antique Yoruba asooke cloths. The detail shows us the careful interlacing of the irregular handspun cotton threads that make up the warp and weft on this rare piece dating from around 1900. A single stripe of magenta silk brought to Nigeria across the Sahara by camel caravan runs along each strip. Importantly this one retains its original neat hand stitched seams and hemming throughout and is in excellent complete condition.
Measurements 6’2″ x 4’1″, 188 cm x 125.
