Description

Large and unusually elaborate “Dori Dori” cloth from the Liptako region of north eastern Burkina Faso. Natural dyed wool stripes in various shades of brown are set against a white hand spun cotton ground. The two rows of weft float motifs that frame the central stripes are a rare feature. These cloths were woven by formerly enslaved weavers and their descendants in a village near the town of Dori but traded quite widely across West Africa.
Made up of six wide strips and in excellent complete condition.

Measurements 8’7″ x 4’4″, 260 cm x 131.
