Unusual minimal Ewe kente men’s cloth with densely packed dark blue cotton warp floats almost concealing the yellow ground weave on the front face of the cloth, resulting in a two sided effect. Supplementary warp float is a rare technique in West African weaving but one the Ewe used for at least 100 years relatively sparingly. Effectively a separate dark blue warp that goes over and under the ground weave. In excellent condition. Dates from circa 1930s. This is a large rather thick cloth that would be great for interiors use.
Measurements 124 inches x 89, 314 cm x 226.
