Bright sunny colours and an interplay of stripes on this fine early C20th Ewe kente women’s cloth from Ghana. Yellow, blue, red, and white stripes along the strips are crossed by pattern blocks that are built up from three broad stripes in red, blue, and green that frame two narrower yellow stripes. Within this regular grid the weaver has played about with multiple variations in the narrow weft stripes, in a few cases replacing them altogether with small motifs. Dates from circa 1910-1920 and is in excellent complete condition.
Measures 81 inches x 51, 207 cm x 130.
