Two women warriors with classic Fante women’s hairstyles are handed flowers by a central figure. Depictions of armed women were a popular theme on Asafo flags, wit the implied message that the company was so powerful that even their women were strong enough to defeat a rival company. However this well designed version with the balanced layout and the man offering bouquets of flowers particularly charming. It dates from around 1970 and is likely the work of the well known master flagmaker Kobina Badowah and his workshop in the village of Kormantse. Condition: Excellent.
Measurement: 61 inches x 36 ins, 155 cm x 92 cm.
