FR494 – Superb men’s hand spun indigo-dyed cotton ground wrapper cloth collected in a village in the vicinity of Bondoukou in northeast Côte D’Ivoire and likely the  work of a weaver from the  Abron or Koulango peoples. The regularity of the design, with three colours of weft faced blocks arrayed in rows on alternating strips across the cloth is broken up towards the central field by smaller and less evenly spaced weft float designs. In excellent condition, this rare cloth dates from early in the C20th.
