Description

On this fine classic style Ewe kente chief’s cloth the weaver has departed from the usual practice of pairing the weft faced blocks – here on almost every “pair” the two blocks are different, either in colour combination of in width or both. Neatly woven extra weft float motifs include some figurative designs. Altogether this is the work of a highly skilled master weaver. It does have some condition issues reflected in a lower price for a cloth of this quality. One or two strips have been removed to make some neat patched repairs and there is slight discoloration in some of the white weft stripes. Dates from circa 1930s.

Measures 123 inches X 67, 312 cm X 171.
