Stripes are the theme on this beautiful Ewe kente men’s cloth. Unusual warp float stripes in black, cream, and a soft orange are overlaid by multiple blocks of weft faced stripes on a muted green/grey cotton ground. The warp float stripes are less visible on the reverse side of the cloth as is usual with this technique giving a different look. Warp floats are relatively unusual but one of the techniques within the repertoire of Ewe master weavers but on virtually every other example I have seen they have been a single colour rather than used to form stripes along the strips as here. Dates from circa 1930-1950. Condition is excellent.
Measures 111 inches X 63, 282 cm X 162.
