Description

AS611 – Fine 1960s Yoruba aso oke woman’s wrapper cloth woven from a mix of hand spun and industrial cotton, with a design of  two turquoise silk warp stripes, each flanked by narrow  yellow stripes crossed by rows of openwork.   The hand spun thread gives a pleasing slubby texture. Beige cloths of this type were called “sanyan” by the Yoruba and continued an earlier tradition of naturally beige wild silk cloths that were high status garments for prestige ceremonials. This strong thick cloth would make a great furnishing fabric for pillows/cushions or upholstery. In excellent condition.

Measurement: 75 inches x 60 ins, 194cm x 152cm.
