Fine Ewe chief’s kente cloth with a dark blue black background

E1138 – The small diamond motifs that dot this blue and green striped cotton Ewe kente men’s cloth were called “tears.” Typically they were larger and crossed the whole strip but here the weaver has reduced them to fit within the stripes. Other float motifs, including a red hand and a white hand are scattered apparently at random, across the cloth, extending across the whole strip and creating an interesting visual interplay with the smaller diamonds. In excellent complete condition. Dates from circa 1950s.

Measures 113 inches X 78, 287 cm X 198.
