E1249 – Beautiful Ewe kente chief’s cloth with two extended sections of extra weft float patterning

1 in stock

Description

At the centre of this beautiful Ewe kente chief’s cloth are two extended sections of extra weft float patterning, one of which is the name of the patron who commissioned the cloth from the master weaver, while the second has been identified as perhaps a canoe with rowers or perhaps a cocoa tree with it’s pods. A few other motifs are grouped in the same section of the cloth, probably where they were most visible when worn, while the remainder of the solid green ground sets off predominantly pale yellow weft blocks. In very good condition and dates from circa 1920-1950.

Measurements 126 inches x 67, 320 cm x 171.
