FR681 – Vibrant mid-twentieth century striped ‘blanket’ cloth from northern Ivory Coast, probably woven by a weaver of Dioula origin for a patron in the Senufo community. Owning these types of hand woven cloth was a marker of prestige and wealth for senior men and women. They could be hung on the wall, placed over a bed, worn as a wrapper in the evenings during the chill period of the harmattan and finally were often buried with their owner. As a result of course we don’t find them very often. It’s quite thick despite being woven from industrial cotton and has an attractive mid century modern vibe. In excellent condition.
Measurement: 109 inches x 62 ins, 276 cm x 152 cm
