Description
Rustic beauty from Nigeria, this soft loosely woven wrapper cloth has broad warp stripes of naturally beige hand spun cotton against a mid blue indigo dyed ground. I haven’t seen another similar example. It retains its original hand stitched seams and hems throughout. Perhaps an obscure village Yoruba asooke, perhaps from another group.
Dates from mid C20th. Measurements 6’2″ x 4’4″, 187 cm x 131.
