Description
Look at the balance between careful planning and improvisation in the layout of this Ewe kente men’c cloth. A frame is provided by the red on black background at the sides and ends, then by a set of widely spaced orange blocks along the second strip from each edge. Pairs of yellow blocks predominate in the central field divided into sections by rows of mixed coloured blocks and weft stripes. When we remember that the whole cloth was woven as a single long strip we can only be impressed by the remarkable ability to hold the whole design in their head as the create the strip row by row. Dates from circa 1930-50 and is in excellent complete condition.
Measurements 9’4″ x 6’4″, 284 cm x 192.
