Two shades of indigo blue stripes and narrow lines of ikat are set against a dramatic pink background on this woman’s wrapper cloth from the ancient Yoruba kingdom of Owo. Narrow stripes of green and yellow border the pink. Woven by a woman weaver using the upright loom, the cloth is formed from two wide panels joined at the centre. Dates from circa 1850s and is in excellent condition.
